Act in America

Break into Hollywood or Broadway!

But First…

You Need To Answer These Questions:

How good does my American accent need to be?
How do I get a working visa for the United States?
How much experience/success do I need at home before taking on L.A. or New York?
When is the best time in the year to go?
And, whether I go there or just want to audition for U.S. productions at home, how do I get my American accent good enough for U.S. Directors and Casting Directors?

Get a Flawless American Accent

By far, the largest film and TV production market in the English-speaking world is Los Angeles. It is 100's of times larger than your city. There are over 200 film and TV productions taking place on any day in Los Angeles. If you are to take your future in film and TV seriously it is recommended that you include L.A. as part of your business strategy.

And these days you don't even need to be in L.A. to audition for Hollywood. You can now do it from your own city because L.A. directors, producers and casting directors are accepting downloaded and streamed screentests. In fact Hollywood's 'pilot season' has become the busiest casting period in Australia with some actors performing up to five auditions a day.

Even if you don't want to venture to L.A., you need to get prepared for Hollywood productions casting and filming in your state or country- especially if you live in New York, Australia or New Zealand.

If theatre is your dream then there's no more exciting city in the world to be than New York, New York… the town so nice they named it twice.
Rivaled only by London's West-End, New York boasts thirty-nine large professional theatres (over 500 seats)- over 100 Off-Broadway theatres (100-499 seats) and over 600 Off-Off-Broadway houses where most actors get there work seen by agents, directors and casting directors. New York is the world's number-one city to furnish your theatrical ambitions. And, although dwarfed by Los Angeles, New York boasts the number-two city in the English-speaking world for film and TV production. Also a large percentage of Hollywood productions, will cast on both coasts. So now, especially with casting directors and producers happy to accept downloaded or streamed screentests, you can live in New York and pursue theatre whilst auditioning for Hollywood productions.

But of course, nearly all the theatre, film and TV performed and cast in New York is in an American accent.

So, whether in L.A., New York or at home, a flawless American accent is an essential part of your business plan. Your first step is ensuring that your American accent is at a standard that is required by US directors and casting directors. These directors are continually disappointed with the difference between what the 'foreign actors' believe is a good American accent, and what the directors require as standard. Don't be lulled into a false sense of security believing your accent is good enough. A degree in American TV watching and a few classes at drama school are NOT ENOUGH. Learn from the best people in the business and add this skill to your arsenal.
